Another successful weekend for Théophile Naël in the penultimate round of the European Formula Regional Championship by Alpine (FRECA). After being crowned F4 champion last year in Barcelona, Théophile returns to the Catalunya circuit under a summer’s sun.
All the drivers know this track perfectly, where every detail can make the difference. Precision was crucial, and the slightest mistake would be dearly rewarded in terms of ranking.
Free practice and qualifying: decisive adjustments
After a promising free practice session, fine-tuning in Q1 cost Théophile and his team a few crucial hundredths. Set-up, tire pressure, track temperature management and aggressiveness were all decisive factors in positioning Théophile for this ultra-competitive race. Despite this, Théophile was able to shine in both races (RACE 1 and RACE 2), winning places right from the start with spectacular overtaking moves.
Barcelona results: steady progress
The Catalan weekend ended with a 6th and 11th place for our driver. Encouraging results for the end of the season!
Theophile’s reaction:
“There were ups and downs. The performance was there for the team and for me. A poor choice in Q1 prevented us from aiming for the top spots. In Q2, 45 thousandths separated us from Enzo, which cost us six places on the grid. In the race, the pace was good and consistent compared with our rivals, but a mistake on the push-to-pass deprived us of well-deserved points.”
Last round at Monza
With these results, Théophile is well placed for the final round of the season, which takes place at Monza on October 25. A final that promises to be full of suspense!
