The legendary Monaco circuit: a unique challenge for every Formula 3 driver
Monaco, the jewel in the crown of the Formula 3 calendar, is much more than just a city circuit. It embodies precision, rigor and mental strength. For young drivers like Théophile Naël, it’s an emblematic event: the slightest mistake can be costly, and every overtaking move is an exploit. It was against this ultra-demanding backdrop that the third weekend of the season took place for our French driver.
Qualifying round: A difficult round to master
Right from the start, the tone was set: little margin for error, lots of traffic, and a car struggling to find the right settings on this very special track. In qualifying, Théophile had to contend with an extremely dense field and an unforgiving race configuration.
The result: 23rd place on the grid, which reflects neither the commitment nor the efforts made, but rather the adjustments still required to optimize the single-seater in such atypical conditions.
Sprint race: Patience, strategy and controlled overtaking
On Saturday, Théophile approached the sprint race with a clear head. On a narrow track not conducive to overtaking, he focused on strategy: staying clean, avoiding incidents and maximizing real opportunities.
🎯 Result:
- +7 positions gained
- 3 remarkable overruns, masterfully executed
- P16 at the finish, in an extremely tense field
This race, although out of the points, represents a real step forward in understanding the demands of Monaco. Théophile proved his ability to read the race and adapt his driving to a high-tension situation.
Main race: Performance cut short
On Sunday, it was time for the main race: longer, more strategic, and offering more points. Théophile showed exceptional pace from the very first laps, even setting the fastest lap in the race for several consecutive laps.
But just as the comeback looked promising, a collision with a rival brought his ambitions to an abrupt halt. A frustrating retirement, to be sure, but above all a strong indicator of his sheer speed and potential.
Review: Learning, maturity and a look ahead to Barcelona
Despite a weekend without points, the analysis is clear: Monaco was a full-scale driving school for Théophile Naël. The circuit enabled him to :
- Working on mental management in extreme conditions
- Fine-tuning race settings on urban tracks
- Developing the resilience that is essential for a championship
“It wasn’t an easy weekend, but I came out of it stronger. I learned a lot about myself, about the car, and about managing races in an urban environment. I can’t wait for Barcelona to put it into practice.” – Théophile
The NT Motorsport team is already fully mobilized for the next meeting in Spain, with the firm intention of capitalizing on these lessons to score valuable points.
